About Casey House
The first facility of its kind in Canada, twenty years ago Casey House helped to change the way the world came to view people with HIV/AIDS.
That pioneering spirit is still called upon daily at Casey House as we continually refine our approach to care, always guided by the loving values of our founders. We have earned international respect for our highly developed expertise and remarkable staff and volunteers, and for our collaborative approach in providing exemplary treatment, support and palliative care for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Thanks to treatment advances, our clients are experiencing improvements in their overall health and quality of life. Sadly there is no cure, and every two hours, another Canadian is diagnosed with HIV.
HIV/AIDS remains a relentless disease. It poses a growing threat to an increasingly diverse population who rely on Casey House for help with a complex mix of physical, social and emotional needs, including chronic health and mental health issues as well as the many challenges associated with poverty, substance abuse and homelessness.
Casey House provides a Residential Program with 13 beds for sub-acute and palliative care, and a comprehensive Community Program which supports over 100 people in their own homes and over 300 in the community providing such services as:
- in-home nursing care, which helps people stay in the familiar surroundings of their homes for as long as possible;
- the Sherbourne Health Bus, which provides assessment and care to those who are homeless or under housed;
- providing women with HIV health care services through our partnership with Voices of Positive Women; and
- the Child Care Program, which ensures that parents with HIV/AIDS can have safe childcare while they attend appointments.
In 1988 it took much wisdom and courage – as well as many open hearts and minds – to create Casey House. Today, in 2008, it will take the commitment of the entire community to continue to give compassion a home at Casey House as we prepare for the next stage of our evolution.
Our clients, their families and loved ones, your neighbours and friends–all depend on us for help. Your financial support of Casey House directly helps people with HIV/AIDS live better and healthier lives. We thank you for your enduring and loyal support and ask you to continue to give generously.
