As a Taiwanese-born living in Canada and having experienced marginalization, Ed Pien celebrates diversity through his work and often attempt to champion those who have less autonomy and agency. What interests him is how, as individuals, we can negotiate and act in the world in responsible, respectful, and empathetic ways. In his art practice, Pien uses diverse processes and materials to realize drawings, cut works, video, photography, as well as installations. Fundamentally he aims to realize poetic and engaging art that is imbued with emotional, physical and conceptual resonance.
