Artist’s Statement
London Life Toronto Life is a mapping piece that was created around the time Jason McLean moved from Toronto back to his hometown of London, Ontario. The piece lays out the areas of east and west London as a comparison of economic visions between relative disparity and difference within the neighbourhoods. The balance of symbols, the x’s and o’s along with the navigational markers act as an exploration of semiotics, signs and symbols and how they are transcribed through the use of mapping as a form of language to describe our direction. Direction within the mind and outside in the physical environment.
