This work is from a series of drawings executed by Jorge Zontal over the course of General Idea’s career. For Zontal, who passed away in 1994 of AIDS-related causes, the cockroach motif was a metaphor for the “black floaters,” the progressive blindness caused by the progression of his HIV/AIDS.
