Artist Statement
As a painter working from life and urban surroundings, Stefan Berg is interested in perceptual experience. Drawn to landscapes where nature and architecture converges, Berg immerses himself in his environment, creating documentarian vistas that record fluctuating elements that are unique to each painting.
Berg received a BFA from OCAD University in 2008, along with the Solomon Painting Award and Eric Freifeld Award. His work has been exhibited in Canada, the United States and Europe, and featured in the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, and the Telegram Journal. Berg would like to gratefully acknowledge the support of the Chalmers Family Fund, the Access Copyright Foundation, the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. In 2024, Berg was awarded the Chalmers Art Fellowship.
