Artist Statement
Meaghan Hyckie (b. 1983, Toronto) fuses aesthetics from videogames, textiles and op-art into prints and drawings of familiar atmospheric and structural imagery, sites of emotional and bodily projection that devolve into shapes, colours and patterns.
In Riff layers of ink appear woven together in sections of colour that have been swapped to create four unique variations. This delicately tactile, optically vibrating screen print animates the spaces between and within the same image of a house icon Hyckie uses to explore domestic space.
Based in Toronto, Hyckie’s work has been exhibited across Canada and is part of the collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario, Museum London, Bank of Montreal and Royal Bank of Canada. Her monumental public artwork Elevations can be seen at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto.
Riff was printed at Smokestack Studio and framed at Superframe.
