Artist Statement
Tiko Kerr is a Vancouver-based artist who believes that collage provides the best description of our splintered, uncertain 21st Century Western psyche.
Bearing witness to the psychological landscape of our particular “now” has been fundamental to Kerr’s artistic practice.
Kerr began working on multiple layers of plexiglass (creating relief wall sculptures such as “Schwitters Symphony No. 8”) during the pandemic since it had become the ubiquitous material signifying limits, impediments and division. These works have become a sort of cage in which he aims to trap our wily, writhing contemporary experience.
They offer us an opportunity to look deeper; to look into, not just “at”.
