Curtis Amisich is an artist whose work is characterized by a unique use of acrylic, exploring themes of technology and nostalgia. Using Barnett Newman as a jumping off point in works such as Who’s Afraid of… (2), Amisich attempts to envelop the viewer in a large post painterly world of colour. A nod to Newman’s late works, this painting combines a bold use of minimal composition with a sense of colour, which is derived less from an art historical context but rather inspired by everyday experiences. Walking the streets on trips to Paris, London, Montreal, Manchester, and Amsterdam — experiencing the fashions of the people, the architecture of the cities, and even the various road and underground signage have all influenced these paintings.

Amisich has held solo exhibitions and participated in group shows in Canada, contributing to the contemporary art scene with his distinct visual language. His paintings are featured in notable art collections throughout the country, including the Bank of Montreal’s Art Collection in Toronto.
