Artist Statement
April Hickox (1955–2024) was one of Canada’s most respected contemporary photographers, known for her innovative lens-based practice and her thoughtful explorations of landscape, architecture, history, and perception. Over a distinguished career spanning more than four decades, Hickox exhibited extensively across Canada and internationally, creating images that revealed the extraordinary within the everyday and invited viewers to reconsider the spaces they inhabit.
Hickox was also a cherished friend and dedicated supporter of Casey House. For many years, she generously contributed her time and expertise as a member of the Art With Heart Curatorial Committee and participated in the auction as an artist, playing an important role in the event’s growth and success. Following her passing in 2024, her absence continues to be deeply felt by the Casey House community. The donation of this work by friends of Casey House offers a meaningful opportunity to honour Hickox’s remarkable artistic legacy, her generosity, and her lasting impact on the organization and those who had the privilege of knowing her.
