Beau Gomez explores affect and tenderness in El Angel – in which ‘Men with fans’ is part of – an image-based project unveiling the nuances of Asian queerness at a crossroads with kinship, gender, desire and self-expression. Through film photographs, video and voice recordings, this body of work confronts interiority and the emotional self, acknowledging the complexities in which identity and community are kept private or shared, experienced and (mis)understood.
