Douglas Coupland is one of Canada’s most influential contemporary artists and writers. Renowned for his examinations of consumer culture, technology, identity, and collective memory, Coupland works across visual art, sculpture, installation, and literature. His work is held in major public and private collections internationally.

Created in 2005, Texaco Gasoline reflects a significant thread within Coupland’s artistic practice: the transformation of familiar commercial imagery into cultural commentary. Using the bold graphic language of a recognizable gasoline brand, Coupland reimagines a corporate logo as a vibrant abstract composition, inviting viewers to consider the role of advertising, nostalgia, and consumer culture in shaping contemporary identity.

Coupland’s work is represented in numerous public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (Toronto), and the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq, as well as many important private and corporate collections.
