Artist Statement
For the past 40 years, Jonathan Forrest has devoted himself to creating abstract paintings that are open, thin, clear and flat, self-referential with no illusions to space or subject. This Modernist movement defines the electric new paintings, exemplified by Red Handed. Pushing the parameters of his “style” one more time, Forrest’s newest abstracts are a celebration of line – bending, nudging, zigging and zagging line. Combined with glorious colour, these new paintings explore space, density and structure.
