Artist Statement
Cam Champ is a Toronto-based artist whose work often delves into the mysterious, ineffable, and fleeting aspects of life. In his “doubles” series, he plays with dark humour tied to the revelry of consumerism, exploring the quiet stories embedded in the things around us. Using repetition, doubling, and symmetry—not as structures of order, but as delicate illusions—Champ builds a world that’s always wavering between real and unreal. His subjects echo each other, sometimes a little off, hinting at stories that feel just out of reach. The space he creates is strange and dreamlike, where vision feels hazy, uncertainty hangs in the air, and repetition twists into something disorienting—capturing the eerie beauty of being caught in a loop that’s just slightly out of sync.
