Artist Statement
Jonathan Tang is a Toronto-based painter whose practice is shaped by a perceptual sensitivity informed by his upbringing in suburban environments. Working from life and memory, he creates scenes that evoke emotional ambiguity, solitude, and a sense of impermanence. Daydream was created during a pivotal phase in his development—capturing a figure suspended in quiet reflection, poised between presence and withdrawal. Though his current work has evolved in focus and form, this painting marks an early articulation of the atmospheric and psychological tones that continue to shape his visual language today.
