Artist Statement
Buds on the Beach captures the golden glow of life’s quieter joys — the simple pleasure of friendship and the serene connection to the natural world. Scott McDermid likens his paintings to songs or poems, whispering, ‘Forgive me this indulgence in troubled times.’ While narrative and figuration remain central to his practice, it’s the interplay of shape, colour, gesture, and abstraction that truly shapes the story — evoking layered subtexts, shifting moods, and a depth of meaning that resists easy definition.
